FSPhost Closed!

Last month, my co-mobile bloggers was asking me if my file host was still active since they are having a hard time downloading files on their mobile phones. I’ve checked it out and still works fine, haven’t noticed any advisory from the login page. I had my account there for 1 year and 2 months, I always made weekly downloads to avoid my account to be cancelled. It wasn’t easy doing such for that period of time. I think that was 2 weeks in a row that I can’t access my files so I went to the main page to login. The page redirect me to fsphost blog.

Fsphost offered free file host service for our files we want to share to our colleagues. I’m sad for its closure last Oct. 30, 2007:

In the past couple months the advertisements could not cover the server costs so we decided to make this step to close fsphost.com. Another reason is the lack of time as this is more a freetime project not our main job .. You will have noticed we are announcing fsphost.com v2 now for over one complete year but it is still not finished.

The FSPHost team is thanking you for using this free service.

No matter how sad I am for losing my files I have my back-up on CD anyway. I want to thank you for great service you offered. You made sharing files easy for us.

What’s Your Mobile Requirements?

When we’re on the lookout for a new cellphone, we have certain requirements before deciding which brand and model we buy. And that requirements depends on our needs, lifestyle, hobbies, etc. Before going to cellphone shop, it is better that we take a look first the specification of mobile phones on the web before going to see the actial phone units.  These are the things I consider:

  • Internal or cellphone memory size – the flash memory or the internal memory divided into two parts. The operating system and the user data. The larger the flash memory size, the better. I love browsing the web using Opera, I need large RAM in doing so.
  • Multimedia Card or MMC capacity – this is the extended memory of the phone. Some mobile phones doesn’t have or require MMC for many reasons.
  • Built-in camera megapixel – usually, older mobile models have lower camera megapixel. I seldom use the built-in camera but when I use it I want quality pictures since I don’t usually bring my digicam.
  • Built-in application – most of the sites I browsed doesn’t include the details of the built-in application installed on the unit. I asked for brochures or flyers in the cellphone shops to know these things. (eg. radio, MP3 player)
  • OS or Operating System – this is the most important thing you shouldn’t miss!

Why Moblog?

In the Philippines, moblog or moblogging are provided by the leading mobile network providers such as Globe and Smart Telecoms. There is an estimated of 40 million mobile phone users to date out of estimated population of 80 million Filipinos.

As of this time, there are 41,144 moblogs registered to G-blogs. I doubt if all of them are active in mobile blogging since there are many bloggers stopped updating their blogs, including me and some bloggers I know. Why?

There are many reasons why people blog, there are many kinds of bloggers as well. I blog because it was sort of my daily diary, rambling about anything I observed and experienced from my daily life. It was sort of an outlet from my stressful life. Until I got interested on mobile ebooks. I’ve learned, shared and moblog about mobile ebooks. There were times that I became feature blogger. Traffic! That time, I don’t care about traffic simply because I don’t want to get noticed by moblog hackers. My moblog had been hacked many times by hackers who wanted to be popular. I’ve emailed my network provider, requested not to feature my blog anymore citing my reasons.

After three years of regular moblogging, I woke up one morning feeling tired and exhausted of moblog. What do I get from moblog? Lots of friends and the good feeling that I’ve helped unselfishly. But I’m not contented with my network provider’s services. There are still many rooms for their improvement and I can’t stay waiting for such.

Eldest, The Movie?!

Eragon, the movie is a big disappointment, it was a shame because it is really a good book. It didn’t do well in cinemas. Many events on the book were not included in the movie. Most of the movie goers who loved the movie maybe because they didn’t read the book. Good for them.

Updated (July 17, 2008): The fan made video I posted here was deleted by Youtube. Here’s another fan made video. There’s no official announcement if Eldest will become a movie. Should or shouldn’t they make Eragon, the movie?

Inheritance Trilogy… Series?

Have you read the first two books of Inheritance Trilogy, Eragon and Eldest? Its not a trilogy anymore, the author Chistopher Paolini decided to expand it and include a fourth full-length novel.

Christopher Paolini will write an additional, fourth novel about his hero Eragon, it was announced last October 30, 2007 by Nancy Hinkel, Publishing Director of Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books. Originally planned as a trilogy, Inheritance will now include four complete novels written by Paolini and be named the Inheritance cycle. Knopf also announced that it will publish Book Three, as yet untitled, in a national laydown in the United States and Canada on September 23, 2008.

I thought all along that I’m waiting for the final book, that the excitement after reading the first two books will come to its end eventually. Duh! Now, I have to wait for the third and fourth book.

“I plotted out the Inheritance series as a trilogy nine years ago, when I was fifteen. At that time, I never imagined I’d write all three books, much less that they would be published” said Paolini. “When I finally delved into Book Three, it soon became obvious that the remainder of the story was far too big to fit in one volume. Having spent so long thinking about the series as a trilogy, it was difficult for me to realize that, in order to be true to my characters and to address all of the plot points and unanswered questions Eragon and Eldest raised, I needed to split the end of the series into two books.” – Christopher Paolini
