Visual Editor Do Works After Upgrade To WordPress 2.5.1

Its been almost a month when WordPress 2.5 was released, WordPress 2.5.1 is now available to fix annoying bugs and security. Who doesn’t want to secure our blog? We always heard news and even saw some of our favorite blogs got hacked and the recent blog that saddens me was co-reciprodropper Arnold of Chalk Is Cheap. I don’t know if its the version he was using or what but the bottom line here is security.

Other than security protection, the problem I’ve encountered since I’ve upgraded ebooktechie.com to wordpress 2.5 was the visual editor which I forgot to mention to my post, WordPress 2.5 Errors was my visual editor of my write post. Its only now that I saw that I forgot to upload some files for that. Imagine from the time being, I’ve been using html editor and just use the “preview this post” new feature of wordpress 2.5. Well. lessons learned already.

WordPress always surprises me, I’ve blog last month the fresh color scheme of the admin panel that was hard on my eyes. Now, I really love using the fresh color scheme at my admin panel. I hope, wordpress would come up with another sets of color schemes on their next upgrade.

Everytime I had to update my wordpress, I always had butterflies on my tummy, always in doubt that I might miss something, somewhere and get errors or loose my files which actually happened on my visual editor. Its a rule of thumb to backup database before upgrade which I always did. Anyway, better upgrade than sorry to get rid of the over 70 errors of wordpress 2.5.

Raccoon On My Mobile

What is raccoon doing on my phone? Raccoon is a mobile application that works for S60 (symbian 60) 2nd edition and probably will work on any FP3 device like 6630, 6680, N70 and N90. It will not work on a vanilla 2nd edition or FP1 device (6600 or earlier models). When Raccoon is successfully installed and configured on the phone, it serves as mobsite (mobile site) to your friends in your country. My friends in moblog and I used this application to share mobile application, ebooks and other files that we have on our phone. It’s like you’re hosting a website on your phone.

I’ve received a SMS from a friend, informed me that raccoon do works again after 2 years that Globe Telecoms blocked it. Let me share the information I’ve posted from my old moblog, dated August 6, 2006. Consider this article as a guide who want to explore more the power of your mobile phone.

Order of installation:

  1. python.sis
  2. raccoon.sis
  3. httpdconf_pm.sis if you installed raccoon.sis to your phone memory OR httpdconf_mc.sis if you installed it to your mmc
  4. webcontent.sis to the same location as the previous sis files

How to use it:

  1. open raccoon
  2. option
  3. settings
  4. set portal port to zero (the rest, no need to change even the identifier and password)

How to make raccoon work (default page)?

  1. Open fexplorer
  2. moved all your files you want to be seen on your mobsite page to e:apache/htdocs/
  3. exit fexplorer (Thats why it would be better if you installed all raccoon and python files on your memory card)
  4. Close all opened application
  5. Open raccoon
  6. Start cellular
  7. Choose gprs or inet connection
  8. Open ipviewer, ur ip would be your url. ex. http://10.30.4.109:80
  9. If you want to see your default page, open your built in browser without exiting raccoon
  10. connect to 127.0.0.1 – you will see now your default page

How to customize your mobsite?

  1. Open fexplorer > go to e:apache/htdocs/index.html > option > file > open with > application > change default to notes > save
  2. Open again index.html > the file should open to notes > save
  3. Go to menu and open notes > open the most recent file > edit > filename should be the same as the title > html code and color code guide is uploaded at my site, use it as reference to personalize your mobsite
  4. after editing, send it as mms to 1
  5. go to fexplorer again > open inbox (the one below z:(rom) or search the file to c: or e:system/mail > copy the .txt file and paste it to e:apache/htdocs > rename it to your desired name with .html ex. kulit.html > do step (1) and change notes to opera, save > click again the file and you will see now your output

Be creative on your mobsite layout.

How to know your mobsite address?

  1. Open raccoon
  2. start cellular
  3. choose inet or gprs
  4. open ip viewer
  5. you will see at the lowest part of the page your IP
  6. your addy now would be your IP+kulit.html. ex. http://10.30.4.109:80/kulit.html
  7. You can send it to your friends, have them connect using 3rd party browser and inet connection

How to send a single file using raccoon?
Get the IP and the exact filename using IP viewer. The format would be like this http://10.30.4.109:80/Python.S60.1stEd.v1.31.zip Your friend can use default browser, opera or fget to download the file using gprs or inet connection.

NOTE: This entry is based on my experience using my 6630. I will try if I can browse on the mobsite using PC if its possible next time.

Mobile Screenshot

There are mobile softwares available to capture screenshots for Pocket PC and Windows Smartphones. Those softwares are not compatible with symbian phones although there are mobile applications that serves the same purpose.

Why would we need mobile screenshots?Mobile Screenshot

  • To post the screenshots to forum, blogs and websites by showing the actual display on mobile screen of mobile applications, games and themes.
  • To lessen the image file size when needed. eg. send or share image via MMS
  • Screenshots are better than the actual image when used as thumbnails of contacts.
  • To get the actual resolution of images on mobile for photo ebook making

The first application I used before to get mobile screenshot was FExplorer. FExplorer is a third party file manager that’s helpful for capturing screenshots. Although, I find the screenshot feature not accurate when sometimes the FExplorer: Screenshot Saved was also displayed on the screenshot itself. When FExplorer is installed, simply press option, choose “Tools”, then choose “Turn Screenshot ON”. Don’t close FExplorer, go to the page you want to capture the image. Press “ABC” + “0″ (zero) to capture. The files will be saved in C:\NOKIA\IMAGES\FE_img

The second mobile application is ALON Screen Capture which I currently using and my favorite on capturing mobile screenshots. Press option, then “start”. Capture screenshot by pressing “ABC” + center joystick (default). You can customize the capture keys if you want. It also supports jpg, gif, bmp 24, bmp 8, mbm image formats. Screenshot images will be saved in C:\NOKIA\IMAGES\alonscreencapture

Note: These mobile applications are for symbian 60 or S60 mobile phones.

Comobi Works Again!

Good news to comobi users, it’s working again. If I wasn’t mistaken, comobi was the most favorite mobile application of filipinos who loves free stuff way back in 2006.

What is comobi? CoMobi is a mobile application, which allows direct connection between two users of smart devices. In order to establish the connection, the smart solution uses the full capacity of the data channel of the mobile operator. CoMobi is optimized for GSM/GPRS networks and could be easily customized for 3G networks.

Comobi Features:
Live Chat – allows prepaid users to chat with their friends provided that other party is also using a 3G device with compatible comobi application installed.

Share Files – sharing of files between two comobi users. Send pictures, audios, videos, games, ebooks, themes, ebooks and other mobile files in an instant.

Free – You read it right. Prepaid users are not charge for live chat or sending of file using comobi provided that you have the proper connection settings in globe prepaid sim. Last year, I received an information that comobi did work using smart prepaid sim. I haven’t tried it using smart.

Interesting? In able to initiate the comobi connection, you need another application, IP Viewer. Open first your default browser, make a connection and leave it open. Open IP Viewer, view your ip. Send your ip to other comobi user. If he connects to your ip, communication begins. The moment the default browser closes its connection, comobi will be disconnected. It is better to refresh the unit before engaging in a comobi session.

Again, both party should have GPRS capable devices and compatible comobi installed on the handheld device.

Four Things To Know Before eBook Download

eBook is popular nowadays compared before ages ago. The good thing now, ebooks are searchable and downloadable in the internet. The problem will occur depends on the ebook you will download. What are the things to know before downloading an eBook?

  • eBook format – Its common to regular websites specially those offering free ebook or blook in exchange of feed subscription that they didn’t indicate the ebook format. Most of them are publishing ebook in pdf format.
  • ebook reader – Would you download every ebook you saw? You also have to take consideration the ebook reader you will use whether in handheld device or computer since ebook readers can read ebook format intended for that reader. I don’t like too much mobile application installed on my phone.
  • free or not – Years ago, I was looking for a specific eBook requested by my fellow co-moblogger. I’ve downloaded the file in pdf format. I’ve converted it to prc format and check it on my mobile. The ebook is unfinished, sort of a teaser of the book. To be able to get the complete file, I have to pay a certain amount. I’ve wasted my time.
  • conversion – You are lucky if you find the ebook with the preferred format. If its not, make sure that you know how to convert that ebook to your preferred format otherwise the only option you have is to install another ebook reader.
