Entrecard Says My Blog Is Cheap!

The best time for me to drop my card is at night. It just so happen that I have spare time this morning and login to my entrecard account to see my inbox. What’s this? Another new feature?

I really don’t like it. To place an advert on my site last night costs 400+ something ec/day. I work hard for it daily to be on the top of my category. I was surprised to see my advert value. 4 ec/day! It was way too low! I did wait for entrecard site to be available again and check on their blog.

To calculate your price at any given moment, just start at 2 credits, and double it for everyone waiting for an ad on your site. For example, if you have 5 people approved and stacked in the “On your widget” column of the dashboard, and 5 people waiting for approval, you would calculate 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2, or 2 to the power of 10, which eqauls 1024 credits. And then in 24 hours, when an ad has completed running, their price would go down to 512. If no one bought an ad that day, tomorrow it would go down to 256. And then if someone bought an ad for 256, the price would go back up to 512.

So the price will actually fluctuate with each ad that has been bought and each ad that completes. If no one has bought an ad on you in a while, your price will get very cheap very quick. And if you want to buy an ad on a high-profile blog, you’ll be able to whenever you want, as long as you have enough credits.

This wasn’t their smoothest implementation, they received many negative feedbacks. Entrecard is my favorite social network, I’ve mentioned that many times. Let’s wait and see, for now I don’t think they will still be my favorite.

Entrecard Says My Blog Is Cheap! — 9 Comments

  1. I was wondering what happened when I logged in this morning and saw all the crazy numbers too. I thought there was no way anyone was going to pay over a 1000 credits to advertise on my blog…and more importantly how was I going to get the credits I needed to advertise on other sites?

I hope they get this straightened out before people give up on it entirely because the process is too confusing.

  2. I don’t like it, either. I don’t like the whole idea of the cost of your spot doubling for everyone who wants to advertise on it. I liked it the old way. I felt like I had input into how much EC my blog cost to advertise on. Now I don’t.

I liked dropping each day, as the advertising prices were reasonable. Now… they do not seem to be reasonable to me. :(

  3. I have to agree, the new system really stinks. I have just a little Warcraft gaming blog which has always been pretty affordable credit wise for other sites to advertise on. On a normal day I usually drop about 100 cards or so and it kept the advertising credits price between 70 – 100 per day.

Today the blog’s price shot up to over 368 credits and went even higher later on! That’s way too much for the average person that has a gaming blog to afford. I even went as far as to decline a lot that were waiting to and told them to re-apply later when the price dropped.

I don’t think Entrecard will still be my favorite anymore either. What a mess.

  4. I noticed I had way more ad sales at around 130 ec’s vs. my 250 ec’s and now it’s over 500 and i’ve had a few people buy it but not nearly as many. and, as long as i have someone buy here and there, it’s just never going to go down which is frustrating. i like a long queue and now i’m down to like 3 people. i don’t like it much.

  5. Add me to the naysayers as well! I’m not liking it. I was comfortable having my ad spots around 65 – 75 range..I always thought the ones above 200 were expensive. If I placed ads on the higher costing spots it was because they were popular and I knew I would get hits through those sites..but still needed to be frugal about it. There is no way I’m going to pay 4000 ec to advertise on anyone’s blog or even 512 for that matter. Since I generally only drop 100 – 150 a day..it would take 4 – 5 days to be able to afford just one ad! This is crazy!

  6. I honestly think this is a much better and fair system now. It’s based on demand for quality blogs and doesn’t depend on serial droppers who inflate ad prices. It’ll also help improve the overall quality of the blogs because if people want to create more demand for adverts on their blog then they need to show that the blog is of high quality, good traffic (not just from entrecard), and will actually give the advertisers value for….advertising! From an economic standpoint, this should vastly improve the quality of the entrecard system, rather than it being one giant pyramid scheme.
