As I saw my dashboard this morning, WordPress 2.6 is officially released July 15 to US but July 16 to my location, a month earlier to expected August 2008 release. I instantly decided to update my wordpress 2.5.1 without knowing the added features. I admit, I don’t want to be left behind and updating wordpress version is kinda addicting. LOL. I didn’t even made a back-up.
You can read the WordPress 2.6 features to this link. After uploading the files and database upgrade, of course I looked for changes on my dashboard. Haven’t found any yet but noticed the “turbo” link at the upper right corner of admin panel.
Here’s what I saw after clicking the turbo link:
Wordpress now has support for Gears which adds new features to web browser. hmnn… sounds a major change so I installed and enabled Gears. Then I clicked it once again to see what will happen next.
I had an error, it says:
“Local Storage Status: Error: Download of ‘http://www.ebooktechie.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins/default/img/menu-arrow.gif returned response code 404“.
I checked on my web host and saw that I haven’t upload such folder. So I upload it and reclick “turbo”. Now it says:
“Local storage status: Updated completed.”
So, I guess, there are no more problems. I’m impressed. Looking forward for future wordpress upgrades, I told you, this is addicting. LOL
aside from Turbo I also like the caption added on your images which will work only if you copy the CSS for Caption from the default theme to your current theme. WordPress really rocks!

Thanks for the Gears reminder. I’d read that it was going to be integrated into 2.6, but didn’t even notice the Turbo button after upgrading!
I haven’t messed with that feature quite yet. The drag and drop feature on the posts is pretty cool though.
I am extremely terrified to update my version of WordPress. It sounds so complicated. I don’t have 1-step update so I have to do it manually and keep putting it off. Kudos to you for doing it.

I was hesitant at first on updating my blog but then curiosity got the best of me. I successfully installed wordpress 2.6 and was glad to see my main page intact. When I clicked on a post, my heart suddenly beat a thousand times per second! The contents on my post is nowhere to be found! The only thing that is showing is a 404 error! Arrgg… And I didn’t even made a back-up of my database! Well to cut the long story short, I was near hopelessness and already thinking of installing a fresh version of wordpress when I thought of editing the permalinks. Voila! Problem solved! lol!

Hi, Felix. I also have a blogspot blog. I still prefer wordpress, too bad that its too late to migrate that blog to wordpress. I saw the difference between the two.
