Free LIT Conversion Using ReaderWorks

Convert PDF To LIT

I received an email few days ago about converting PDF to LIT format using the contact form on this site. I have some issues with the past contact form plugin after plugin upgrade, the sender’s name and email address were not shown because of the plugin bug. The email goes like this:

I’m curious if you know of a program that can convert .pdf files into .lit files. I HATE reading pdf ebooks, because I cannot save my place in them, whereas the .lit version saves your place in multiple books. I read the books on my laptop…

I agree that when it comes to eBooks, we cannot have bookmarks in pdf unless we take note of it. The easiest way will be purchasing a file converter specially for that function, pdf to lit. There are trial versions but they offer it for limited page conversion, 5-10 pages only just enough to try and test the product.

The “FREE” conversion:

1. Convert the pdf files to .TXT format or Word .DOC file. There are two ways:
   • Open the PDF file, edit, select all, copy and paste it to notepad or MS Word.
   • Use free PDF to TXT converter software. You could also try free PDF to DOC software.
2. Images will not be copied (TXT), save the image separately as an image file (optional)
3. Edit the copied file for line breaks and spaces.
4. Download and install free ReaderWorks.
5. Make necessary adjustments to settings before conversion.

Why Do We Need Mobipocket Categories?

When it comes to ebook conversion of mobipocket, do we really need to encode the book category or genre? Mobipocket as one of the leading ebook provider, the powerful Mobipocket reader have feature to filter files… to filter them according to publisher, genre and author.

Let’s look at the ebook reader’s (person) point of view. Let’s assume that a bookworm has lots of ebook collection on his Mobipocket Reader or eLibrary. It will be easy to find ebooks by a certain author, publisher or genre by clicking the filter feature.

For the record, here’s the list of mobipocket categories.

What if your category is not included in the list? We could leave blank the main subject or choose “undefined” during conversion. This is okay IF the ebookworm has few ebook collection. Take note that ebook files in eLibrary will eventually grow in the long run. I’m sure Mobipocket and MobiReader fanatics understand what I mean.

Convert Repligo (RGO) To Other Formats

Some of the new generation of bookworms prefer repligo formats than other mobile ebook readers in the market including me. Based on my observation, I believed that a bigger percentage of mobile eBook users prefer other formats. Luckily, they found sites and forums that offer free ebooks in repligo or rgo format. I guess, repligo users have wide collections of ebooks. Will the other ebook users allow the opportunity of having the “hard to find” ebook in the market scape?

The disadvantage of using repligo application in mobile phones is that it isn’t available to wide variety of phones. This is one of the reason why I haven’t change my smartphone. Going back, there’s NO software available in the market to convert repligo format to other formats.

The best thing to do is to download and install Repligo Viewer for Windows. Cerience doesn’t offer anymore the software to their download page but the link I have is still downloadable. Take note that it is version 2.1 and latest update is year 2004. Download the file and install to your computer. It is free and should work with Windows XP. It is advisable to have a backup copy to CD for future installation.

1. Open the repligo file using Repligo viewer
2. Select all
3. Copy (as long as your eBook is text)
4. Paste it to notepad
5. Edit the file if necessary to tidy up the file
6. Save it as txt format (you can save it also to other format like MS Word, RTF etc)

Optional: If the repligo file have image, save the image as regular image file. This is depends on your desired output ebook format like mobipocket, PDF etc.

Twilight Saga eBook, Using Trial Conversion Software

I admit, I am one of those instant fan of Twilight. I finished reading the first 4 ebooks in a week, on my mobile of course. That explained why I didn’t updated my blog regularly (2-3x a week), the other reasons are not appropriate on this blog. Well, I make it a point to read the books first before watching Twilight the movie with my teenagers.

Anyway, when I was reading Breaking Dawn, book 4 of Twilight Saga, I noticed the upper part of the ebook. Please see the image, the text “ABC Amber Text Converter Trial Version” is included on the ebook itself. I’m not using the converter, I’ve downloaded the pdf ebook somewhere (sorry, I forgot where I got it). Take note that I’m using repligo reader on my mobile and converted the file to rgo or repligo.

The way I see it, it seems that the file I downloaded was not originally in pdf format. It maybe in other format and converted to PDF which I converted to repligo. hmnn… if there’s a will, there’s a way, right? I have to mention again that the Twilight Saga ebooks are banned to forums that’s why many ebook users are finding ways to convert ebook depends on their ebook reader.

For me, I don’t like my mobile ebooks have the trial text caption but Twilight Saga ebooks is one of the exemption. eBook conversion really helps on this case, we don’t need to be a geek to handle ebook conversion.
