Will You Give Up Repligo eBooks?

Some mobile eBookworms prefer to use Repligo as their mobile reader. But the developer had stopped releasing mobile reader updates for symbian 60 since 2004. I’m still and will be using repligo on my symbian phone until such time that my cellphone serves its purpose. But, if I have to give up my current Nokia unit and have to change my unit, I might change my mobile ebook reader and my love for repligo just like any mobile eBookworms.

Ever wonder what will you do to your precious repligo ebook collection? I admit, I’m taking consideration the repligo compatibility in choosing a new mobile. That was before, I changed my mind. If there’s no repligo updates, I don’t want to end up reading my repligo ebooks on my PC. I would rather find a way to save those files… and converting them to other format is the only solution I can think of. My post Convert Repligo To Other Formats is worthy enough in this case or you could check out other repligo conversion posts.

Few years back when I started on mobile ebook reading and choosing the appropriate ebook reader for me and my handheld device, the developer have conversion tools to convert other formats to repligo format. I believe there was no developer who made a software for reversing the conversion or converting repligo to other format. Imagine that it could be easier to convert those precious files in “one click”. How I wish there is such software.

There’s no harm on trying… make repligo as source file or forget your collection?

Read CBR CBZ Files On Mobile

batman_hushIf your symbian phone doesn’t have any compatible Comic Book Reader application and you’re eager to read the latest Comic Book you’ve downloaded, what will you do? Will you give up? Give up your cellphone?

Its been a week, until now, I cannot find any CBR CBZ reader for Symbian 60 2nd Edition. I found one for S60 3rd edition and not compatible to my mobile phone. I still didn’t give up and find another way to read (or view) the comic book on my mobile. A page from the comic Batman Hush on the left was resized to fit on this post, original size was 1280 x 2002 (1.1 MB).

I mentioned before to post CBR CBZ For Comic Book that a cheat to view CBR and CBZ files is to rename them as RAR or ZIP (compressed files). Make sure that you have any software like Winzip, WinRAR or any other file compression software installed on your PC. I’m using WINRAR even on my mobile. After renaming a file to RAR or ZIP, its icon will be changed to decompression icon.

You could click the file to view its contents. In my case, I extracted all the files and resized the images to smaller size. Then I transferred the files to memory card of my phone. View the files as regular images on your phone.

Actually, I was thinking of converting the images to java photo eBook but I think its impossible to view the text on each page image. One thing I don’t like is navigating the cursor around again just like reading a PDF on mobile. I still enjoy reading the real comics, Comic books on PC is better than reading it on mobile.

eBookworm On Vacation

ebookwormvacationA common practice for eBookworms is to load additional eBooks to their mobile, PPC, iPhone, PSP, laptops, etc. Lenten season in the Philippines includes a long weekend, an opportunity to have a vacation with their family while observing the Holy Week. Most Catholics and non-Catholics Filipinos also like to ease the summer heat that’s why beach resorts and cold places like Baguio and Tagaytay are common choices. Its like hitting two birds with one stone.

Out of town vacation could also mean idle time, a perfect time to read aside from repenting and reflecting. Idle time will be during travel, while waiting for someone/something, 10am-3pm on the beach, while resting, before sleep etc. I received increased search on this blog looking for ebooks for download this week, I update this post everytime I saw ebook download sites that was not listed.

For those who forgot to prepare your ebooks, you could also do online mobile ebook reading (sources are included in the above link) or use WattPad for iPod Touch and iPhone.

Have a meaningful and spiritual Lenten Season, grab an eBible for iPhone or Symbian phone.A light packer like me will never have books on my backpack.  Gotta go.

Bob Ong's eBooks

bobong
The image above is a sreenshot of Bob Ong’s ebook in PDF format. Bob Ong is a Filipino author publishing books in tagalog. He had already lots of books published from 2001 to present.

  • ABNKKBSNPLAko?!
  • Bakit Baliktad Magbasa Ng Libro Ang Mga Pilipino?
  • Ang Paboritong Libro Ni Hudas
  • Ang Kagilagilalas Na Pakikipagsapalaran Ni Zsazsa Zaturnnah
  • Alamat Ng Gubat
  • Stainless Longganisa
  • Kikomachine Komix Blg. 1-5
  • Penumbra Novellas: Takod, Parman, Craving
  • Macarthur
  • Tikman Ang Langit
  • Girl Trouble
  • Kulas
  • Peksman (Mamatay Ka Man) Nagsisinungaling Ako (at iba pang Kuwentong Kasinungalingan na di pa dapat paniwalaan)
  • Trese: Murder On Balete Drive
  • ROLES (a Not Quite Unreal novel)

2 reasons why I made this post:

First reason, piracy. See the image above? The real book was photocopied or scanned and created in PDF format. The book costs not much compared to other similar genre and it was available for download from forums. If I really like the book, I’m sure I will have another collection just like Pugad Baboy (a local political humor books).

Second reason: This is to show an example of a kind of ebook that is impossible to be converted. I received a download link via SMS for this PDF years ago from a ebookworm and asked me a favor to convert it so he can read it on his mobile.  Technically, its impossible.
