Raccoon On My Mobile
What is raccoon doing on my phone? Raccoon is a mobile application that works for S60 (symbian 60) 2nd edition and probably will work on any FP3 device like 6630, 6680, N70 and N90. It will not work on a vanilla 2nd edition or FP1 device (6600 or earlier models). When Raccoon is successfully installed and configured on the phone, it serves as mobsite (mobile site) to your friends in your country. My friends in moblog and I used this application to share mobile application, ebooks and other files that we have on our phone. It’s like you’re hosting a website on your phone.
I’ve received a SMS from a friend, informed me that raccoon do works again after 2 years that Globe Telecoms blocked it. Let me share the information I’ve posted from my old moblog, dated August 6, 2006. Consider this article as a guide who want to explore more the power of your mobile phone.
Order of installation:
- python.sis
- raccoon.sis
- httpdconf_pm.sis if you installed raccoon.sis to your phone memory OR httpdconf_mc.sis if you installed it to your mmc
- webcontent.sis to the same location as the previous sis files
How to use it:
- open raccoon
- option
- settings
- set portal port to zero (the rest, no need to change even the identifier and password)
How to make raccoon work (default page)?
- Open fexplorer
- moved all your files you want to be seen on your mobsite page to e:apache/htdocs/
- exit fexplorer (Thats why it would be better if you installed all raccoon and python files on your memory card)
- Close all opened application
- Open raccoon
- Start cellular
- Choose gprs or inet connection
- Open ipviewer, ur ip would be your url. ex. http://10.30.4.109:80
- If you want to see your default page, open your built in browser without exiting raccoon
- connect to 127.0.0.1 – you will see now your default page
How to customize your mobsite?
- Open fexplorer > go to e:apache/htdocs/index.html > option > file > open with > application > change default to notes > save
- Open again index.html > the file should open to notes > save
- Go to menu and open notes > open the most recent file > edit > filename should be the same as the title > html code and color code guide is uploaded at my site, use it as reference to personalize your mobsite
- after editing, send it as mms to 1
- go to fexplorer again > open inbox (the one below z:(rom) or search the file to c: or e:system/mail > copy the .txt file and paste it to e:apache/htdocs > rename it to your desired name with .html ex. kulit.html > do step (1) and change notes to opera, save > click again the file and you will see now your output
Be creative on your mobsite layout.
How to know your mobsite address?
- Open raccoon
- start cellular
- choose inet or gprs
- open ip viewer
- you will see at the lowest part of the page your IP
- your addy now would be your IP+kulit.html. ex. http://10.30.4.109:80/kulit.html
- You can send it to your friends, have them connect using 3rd party browser and inet connection
How to send a single file using raccoon?
Get the IP and the exact filename using IP viewer. The format would be like this http://10.30.4.109:80/Python.S60.1stEd.v1.31.zip Your friend can use default browser, opera or fget to download the file using gprs or inet connection.
NOTE: This entry is based on my experience using my 6630. I will try if I can browse on the mobsite using PC if its possible next time.

Dumb And The Dumber On Mobile eBooks
You are in a quiet place, lets say in a beach. You saw a person gazing on his mobile phone screen without blinking, sometimes changing his facial expression. He didn’t make any movement on his cellphone, just a pressing a single press on his keypad. Reading his body language made you think, what’s with this person? What is he doing? Maybe looking to a picture? But why it doesn’t look like that? Why changing his facial expression? Reading his body language will made you think that he looked stupid or rather dumb.
Did you picture that scenario on your mind? Can you control yourself and not ask that person what is he up to? I have a confession to make, its not a “he” but a “she” and actually happened in real life. It was me who looked dumb. I was on vacation in a beach in the province, don’t want to swim when the sun is high. I was slowly swaying in a hammock tied in a tree while a local asked me in the tone of her voice that I’m stupid on my actions. I should have not explained to her what I was doing on my phone in the first place but I choose to answer it in few simple words.
She was amazed and my answer to her question made her asked more questions regarding mobile ebooks. I found out that she is also a bookworm. The look in her eyes changed and I did made her change her impression with me as well. At the back of mind, I thought, I maybe looked dumb while reading ebooks on my mobile but there’s no way that I’m dumber. lol
Would you rather called the dumb or the dumber on mobile ebook? No offense with the title, I found the title appropriate on the topic. Somehow, I would rather looked dumb on mobile ebook than a dumber. How about you?
Valentine’s Day Quote SMS Made Easy
Love quotes… Valentine’s Day quotes… romantic quotes… these are the kind of keywords searchable now. People young at heart in every walks of life are searching for SMS quotes. Its affordable and convenient way of greeting our loved ones on Valentine’s Day.
Okay, provided that you’ve seen an appropriate SMS for your honey, for your relatives and friends. What is the best way to send them easier? If I wasn’t mistaken, I’ve been using this mobile application for over a year on my S60 mobile phone. It made sending group SMS hassle-free, simple to use and not time consuming.
NaSMS is a mobile application that allows you to send group SMS easier. The nice thing with this application… while the group SMS is still sending (using NaSMS), you can still send and receive SMS on your built-in messaging without interruption. They’ve released the latest Symbian9 S60 3rd edition version 1.5 in sisx format last February 9, 2008. I’m still using the older version 1.3 since it is the version compatible on my 6630.
If you’re still not successful on finding the appropriate Valentine’s Day SMS for your loved ones, you might want to check this Love SMS compilation.
Free Call from Globe Telecoms
Globe Telecoms was having a technical problem with their system for a past few days until now in different locations. There were times that I can’t check my account balance and I have no outgoing SMS and call. I’ve experienced these for the past two-three days. Yesterday was the worst… I’ve sent a group message to my colleagues without using unlitxt service around 8:30am. I had to load again my prepaid sim for another batch of group SMS, I’ve received my load but I don’t have any successful outgoings call and text until this morning. Such a hassle because I have to insert to my phone a smart sim to make a group SMS. Whew!
Anyway, when I got home, I was about to complain using a landline. Would you believe, Globe hotline cannot be reached? I don’t know if that was the first time I can’t reach the hotline, all I know was, that was the first time they have serious system maintenance.
The good news to some Globe prepaid subscribers without load yesterday was they have their unlimited free call to any local network and roaming numbers. I shouldn’t have complain in the first place. As of the moment, they are still receiving tons of complains but the technical team are doing their best to solve the technical problems.
Globe UNLITXT40 And UNLITXT80 ARE BACK
I’m supposed to post this yesterday but I’m waiting for my site to become stable because of the migration, sorry for the delay. A mobile co-blogger informed me 2 days ago about the resume of UNLITXT and I immediately called the Globe hotline.
Good news: UNLITXT40 and UNLITXT80 are back. Due to insistent public demand, Globe Telecoms resumed the UNLITXT or unlimited SMS service started last January 9, 2008. UNLITXT40 is unlimited SMS for 48 hours or 2 days while UNLITXT80 is good for 5 days.
Bad news: The bad news is… Read more…
