How To Know Mobile IP Address
As I’ve discussed from my previous entry, knowing IP address is important especially on using mobile application intended for sharing files like Raccoon mobsite (mobile web server) and Comobi. Both these mobile applications need internet and/or GPRS in able to have connections to other party.
I don’t want to sound complicated, I am using a mobile application called IPviewer to know my IP address. This is an easy and reliable mobile application for me, tried and tested on my symbian phone. Just make a connection using built in browser, Opera, Opera Mini, fget or any mobile applications you know for Internet/GPRS connection. Open IPviewer application without closing connection, at the bottom of the page, you will now see your IP as shown in the image.
A disconnected connection when reconnected means another IP address. So, when using Raccoon or Comobi, refresh IPviewer to get the new mobile IP address.

Make Raccoon Mobsite Password Protected
There were instances that I shared files from my mobile phone, using Raccoon mobile application and serves as my mobile web server. Sometimes, I just SMS the link and for some reason the recipient send the link to other people. What if I don’t want the files to be shared to unknown persons? Who would be happy if you are getting abused in a way, this is the reason why mobile web server should be password protected if needed.
The steps:
- Edit httpd.conf, look for the following line
# Uncomment the following line if you don’t want to let anybody unknown
# see your home-page.
# Require valid-userRemove # before the word Require
- Send as mms > cancel. Go to fexplorer, open inbox, copy & paste the file E:apache/conf. Rename it as httpd.conf
- Edit the file “users”, also located at E:apache/conf. At the bottom of the file, you will see
#hello:world
–Remove #
- You can also change the username:password
- You can add as many username:pw as you want. Now, there will be no more uninvited guest on your mobile web server.

Edit HTML Using System Explorer
This article is another way of editing html file using mobile phone, symbian60 to be exact. I prefer using System Explorer than my previous article, it’s easier and more convenient for me. System Explorer is also a third party file manager mobile application just like FExplorer. When it comes to html editing, I depend on System Explorer.
- Open System Explorer
- Goto the html file
- Click Option, Choose “Open with”
- Choose “Ansi editor”
- Make necessary html editing to html file
- Click Option, Choose “Save as”, Click OK
*You could also click back, then choose yes to save the file
Easy, isn’t it? My previous post is the basic way I used if I don’t have System Explorer installed. Now, you can edit html to customize Opera homepage or Raccoon mobsite. If you’re not sure with your codes, make a backup of the file. Again, this article is tried and tested on N6630.

Edit HTML Using Mobile Phone
This article is a follow up of basic information about raccoon and sort of a guide for html editing using mobile phone only. The generation we are now, there are also some people who doesn’t have access to computer or simply because they wish to do it on their phone for some reason. Recently, I am editing my Opera homepage again to update my links and layout. Editing the html on my phone made me see in an instant the actual output rather than editing it in a notepad on PC. There are computer software for this function but I am more comfortable using this method.
- On your symbian phone, using third party file manager fexplorer (any file manager will do but not the built-in file manager) rename file.html to file.html.txt – a trick to let the file manager recognize the file as txt file and not as an html file
- Make sure that the default application for txt file is “Notes” application. Here’s how to do it: Go to the txt file, click option, file, open with, file extension = TXT, Applications = Notes, then save.
- To test, click again the txt file, the file should open by Notes application. If its not, redo step 2.
- Go to Notes application, open your recently saved note, edit the file, send as MMS to any number then cancel
- Open fexplorer, click inbox, copy the file.txt and paste to other folder. Rename it to file.html
Note: You can see the out by assigning your third party browser such as Opera as the default application for html file. You can do it using step 2. Sometimes, it depends on 3rd party file manager you are using, to the step above, I suggest to use fexplorer. Tried and tested on N6630.
Why cancel the MMS? So the file will be save as txt file after editing and get the edited txt file from “inbox” of fexplorer.

Mobile Screenshot
There are mobile softwares available to capture screenshots for Pocket PC and Windows Smartphones. Those softwares are not compatible with symbian phones although there are mobile applications that serves the same purpose.
Why would we need mobile screenshots?
- To post the screenshots to forum, blogs and websites by showing the actual display on mobile screen of mobile applications, games and themes.
- To lessen the image file size when needed. eg. send or share image via MMS
- Screenshots are better than the actual image when used as thumbnails of contacts.
- To get the actual resolution of images on mobile for photo ebook making
The first application I used before to get mobile screenshot was FExplorer. FExplorer is a third party file manager that’s helpful for capturing screenshots. Although, I find the screenshot feature not accurate when sometimes the “FExplorer: Screenshot Saved“ was also displayed on the screenshot itself. When FExplorer is installed, simply press option, choose “Tools”, then choose “Turn Screenshot ON”. Don’t close FExplorer, go to the page you want to capture the image. Press “ABC” + “0″ (zero) to capture. The files will be saved in C:\NOKIA\IMAGES\FE_img
The second mobile application is ALON Screen Capture which I currently using and my favorite on capturing mobile screenshots. Press option, then “start”. Capture screenshot by pressing “ABC” + center joystick (default). You can customize the capture keys if you want. It also supports jpg, gif, bmp 24, bmp 8, mbm image formats. Screenshot images will be saved in C:\NOKIA\IMAGES\alonscreencapture
Note: These mobile applications are for symbian 60 or S60 mobile phones.
