Template Customization

To Change Or Modified WordPress Template?

Sometimes, were not happy with our template. Should we change it or modified it instead? I haven’t tried changing my template just like anydone does if they’re not contented anymore with their template. Let’s face the fact the template we are using is a plus factor on blogging. I’m not a guru on html codes but I understand the basics for now. Here’s the screenshot of my default template, Freedom Green is a modified and widgetized version by Tina Silva on Frank Helmschrott’s ‘Freedom blue 2.0′. Also modified from the version by Eyoung.

Personally, I won’t used this wordpress template if its not modified by Courtney Tuttle to be search engine friendly.

Since its already search engine modified and I’m using All-In-One SEO Pack plugin, I’m working on the layout design and careful on my editing. The first thing I want to change was my header. I don’t know much on photoshop, it just so happen that I’ve found a template that’s almost similar with the black and green navigation header. Its longer and wider image, from that image, I started learning editing image using photoshop. This is the one I’m currently using, the orange and black combination.

Noticed my header? It was personally made by my friend Marikenya. I really love the abstract on the right side and the mobile ebook image on the left, it blends with my layout and my blog content. Nah, let me rephrase that, the banner gave life to my blog. LOL! I’ve changed other things from this template such as post title color, sidebar title color, sidebar title background color, image on the sidebar list and the dropdown blogroll. Images were always in gif format for speedy loading.

Basically, I don’t want to change my template but modified it that suits my taste. Yes, its time consuming but modifiying your own wordpress template made your blog unique. Its sort of achievement when you accomplished the look you want. I still have things in mind to do here and that cannot be done in one sitting.

The Requested Theme Does Not Exist

This is the first problem I’ve encountered here when I’ve tried customizing my template. It took me few hours figuring it out how I have this kind of error. Its confusing that after a few revisions of template colors when I’ve clicked the “update file”, the error appeared. I’ve tried it for several times.

Huh? What happened? Where did I go wrong? After a few search, I’ve found out that the culprit is the ampersand sign or “&” inserted at the theme name. Yeah, its not easy revising my template but I already did a little changes. I’ve changed the post title color, h2 and h3 background colors, some adjustments with the margins and paddings. I cannot finish my customization with one sitting, expect more changes with my template as I continue learning the codes.
