Eldest, The Movie?!

Eragon, the movie is a big disappointment, it was a shame because it is really a good book. It didn’t do well in cinemas. Many events on the book were not included in the movie. Most of the movie goers who loved the movie maybe because they didn’t read the book. Good for them.

Updated (July 17, 2008): The fan made video I posted here was deleted by Youtube. Here’s another fan made video. There’s no official announcement if Eldest will become a movie. Should or shouldn’t they make Eragon, the movie?

I read the books. I read Eragon 4 and a half times before the movie (tried to read it again before going to see it but that never happened - I thought this way I could remember events and stuff and compare. There was no need in the end o_o)… I read Eldest once…
I found it was a good movie. I mean, IN COMPARISON TO THE BOOK, the movie… it sucked. It sucked ass and screwed over a great book.
IF IT IS NOT COMPARED TO THE BOOK, this movie was great. My mom saw it with me and loved it and she never read the book. I enjoyed it because I could easily just not compare the book to the movie because that ruined it for me. And if you think about it, doesn’t comparing a book to a movie ruin the experience for you? OF COURSE the movie will be different from the book because it’s someone else’s imagination of how things looked and their variation of it before you.

      But with this sequel stuff…
They can’t do it. I’m sorry, but it’s not possible. Really. They screwed over the actual storyline of Eragon so badly they can’t stick to the Eldest storyline whatsoever. Katrina wasn’t there (I don’t count deleted scenes), Jeod wasn’t there, Solembum, Angela (she wasn’t in Furthen Dur), what Roran really planned on doing when he left, the twins weren’t there (again, I don’t count the deleted scenes), Murtagh wasn’t kidnapped (but I think that happened in the beginning of Eldest…), et cetera.
If they do make it into a movie, all they’ll be doing is taking a book title, SOME of the characters, and half the settings (again). That’s it. They’re on their own, they need to make up their own story if they want Eldest to be a movie. It won’t work any other way.
I don’t think it should be made into a movie because it’ll be a huge disappointment story-wise since they’ll be making theirs up and it won’t be nearly as good as the real thing. Possibly. Depends, I didn’t like the Eldest book all that much cause I found it dragged and stuff

That’s my opinion on this xD I’ve argued it constantly with my friend who never read the book yet thinks it’s TOTALLY possible and SHOULD be made a movie.

I discovered the Eragon and Eldest stories as audio books. I saw the books in bookstores and my local Wal-Mart when they were first released. The cover artwork caught my eye but merchandised; as a child’s book, was a turnoff.

Because I spend a lot of time driving each day I found audio books a good way to pass the long hours on the road. I started with books on tape, them moved up to books on CD. Now I’ve joined a audio book club and are downloading the books to my mp3 player. I now carry thirty unabridged novels with me at all times. I’m into sci-fi in a big way. Dune, Star Wars and Star Trek being my main multiple listens. In January of this year I went on line looking for something new when Eragon caught my eye again. The web site offered a sample, which turned to be most of the prolog to the book. Right then and there I downloaded the first book. Eldest was downloaded the same day I finished Eragon. So far I’ve listened to the books six times. With each listen I discover new treasures within the story I didn’t pick up on before. Now with the impending release of Brisingr I have started my seventh journey into the Eragon’s world.

Now for the movie Eragon; or should I say the total slaughter of one of the best stories around. It was evident the writers never read the book. They must have only looked at a summary of the story prepared by a fifth grader. The casting director should loose his/her job for the mess they did. Eragon and Brom were good choices but the rest. . . . Angela, was the worst casting of them all.

I would like to see the Sci-Fi Channel take on the story of Eragon. Tell the story in the miniseries, format. There is so much humor in the story that was never even hinted at in the movie. And how about the middle half of the story that was tossed into the trash? The Elves and Dwarves were the backbone of the story and their stories were cut.

If the big wigs that produced the Eragon Movie, were to take on Eldest, they would botch that story beyond recognition as they did with Eragon.

Our only hope is that the Sci-Fi Channel would take on the project. Until they do we still have the story in the purest form ; the written words of Christopher Paolini.

I’m now counting the days to the release of Brisingr.
