I Fried My Memory Card!
We all know that eBooks comes with huge file sizes… installing and removing eBook files is also a risk to your phone’s memory card. I’m not saying that this is for eBook file alone but to all files you are putting and removing from your memory card such as applications, games, videos, audios, images and others. Size isn’t always the remedy but large capacity memory cards are a big improvement, except for nokia symbian 60 1st edition system that can’t handle large capacity memory card.
One problem to be aware of – sometimes, but rarely, memory cards do fail and if this should happen to you, think about all the files you will have lost. Its not a pleasant experience.
I still have my old memory card, the one that comes with the mobile phone, its a 64mb MMC. I’ve bought another one with larger capacity. I’m using the old MMC for my back up files (mobile applications and eBooks) so I’m switching from the old one to the new MMC. That was before when I don’t have computer access. Nokia 6630 unit is one of the few units that you can open the MMC slot without turning it off. One time, I was charging my phone (I don’t turned it off while charging) and I noticed that something is wrong with my phone so I need to back up my contacts immediately. I did forgot that I was charging at that time, I’ve swap the MMC without pulling off the charger! The new MMC didn’t work at all. I just laugh with my stupidity, when I’ve realized my mistake. Imagine, I’ve fried my memory card! Its a good thing that I still have the MMC warranty and claim it without telling the supplier what really happened.
These are the few tips on taking care of memory card: (as far as I remember)
- Don’t fried them!
- After several deletion of files, use the compress option using FExplorer
- Defragment using a memory card reader and computer occasionally
- If you are using Opera third party browser, always delete cache, cookies and history after using it
- Back up your files to your computer, to a file host or to your Yahoo briefcase
- Never remove your memory card while application is running. Close all running application first.
- If you had formatted your MMC using a card reader, format it again on your mobile phone.
