Automatic (SQL) Database Backup

Blogging is not simple especially if you self hosted your blog. The common mistake is not backing up database or SQL files regularly. What if your blog suddenly disappear? Bad things happen but we should never neglect our obligation to our blog among other things. But backing up database is also time consuming when you have many tasks to do. I only have 4 hours a day on my PC, 2 hours spent on entrecard dropping for my 2 blogs and 2 hours for blogging. There’s no more time for me logging in to my database to back it up.

Actually, I found a simple solution. I used a plugin few months back. I didn’t post it here because I’m still testing it. Now, I recommend it to all bloggers I know and decided to make a post about it to spread the word. It is called WP-DBmanager and you can download it here.

Its compatible with wordpress version 2.5 and above. I’m using wordpress 2.6.1 and it still works. Actually, I lost my site, it is currently hosted at bluehost. With reliable support of bluehost and with SQL backup made by this plugin, I guess, my site will be gone forever. Actually, it doesn’t matter what host account you have as long you always backup your database. I highly recommend to use the plugin, it supports manual backup, automatic backup (input the right settings in DB Options on your wp admin panel, I set it up every 3 days), restore backup, email database, download database, repair database (haven’t tried yet) and many more.

If you need more quality time on blogging without disregarding your database backup, using this plugin is another option.

Ready For Multiple Domain Hosting?

So, after a month of comparing my two separate web hosts, I drive to decision of moving ebooktechie.com blog to my bluehost account. Enough with comparison, observation and “trials & errors”. What matters most is to have a 24/7 customer support anytime I need it.

Last month, I did have problems on setting up my other blog on my current host until I decided to sign up to bluehost. I don’t need a separate web host for each of my blogs, what I need is a reliable support, in this case, for multiple domain hosting. In times of trouble, that’s the time you will realize if you’re happy with your host’s service. Don’t wait for future problems on your current host, rate them now.

Mobile Ready Your Blog

Never in my wildest dream that the world of mobile technology will reach its present status now. Making a wap site before is like an ego booster… a hobby… an outlet… a lifestyle. Today, mobile users accessing wapsites using their handheld device is still growing especially after the launch of iPhone 3G err… that’s mobile lifestyle indeed.

Wapsites before such as wap forum, moblog (mobile blog), download portals among other wapsites tend to plagiarized contents from websites, web forums and blogs. The good thing is PageRank applies to wap using Yahoo and Google wap search. Technically, if the websites are indexed by search engines with PageRank, no problem with that except for duplicate content. We still enjoy traffic from mobile users.

From the mobile users point of view, if a person go to a website loaded with images, widgets, chances are the mobile browser will be closed because of limited cache compared to PC capability. Sometimes, it would never stop from loading. Looking at their limited needs including myself, this is the main reason why I use a simple template. Although there’s no guarantee that if the site loads faster in the computer it would do the same on wap sites. And remember that wap users have limited visibility because of their mobile screen. But either way, the template would help.

The good thing with wordpress as my blogging platform, there are plugins we can use to mobile ready our blog. Basically, wapsites are XML and wordpress is PHP codes, plugin handles the script. The image below shows how my blog would look like using WordPress Mobile Edition plugin. No need to make a separate wapsite with same content. Remember, duplicate contents are penalized by Big G. It is also possible to earn from wap visitors by making our wordpress blog a mobile ready blog.

We are doing our best to make quality content, I heard it somewhere that “quality is king.” I thought, what’s the use of quality blog if its hard to read or not accessible on mobile phones, iPhone, PPC, PDA and other handheld devices regardless if you’re not a tech blog or mobile related blog. My blogs are WAP ready or should I say mobile ready wordpress blogs. How about yours?

Entrecard Credits For Sale?

This blog and my personal blog accumulated a sum of entrecard credits when I got busy fixing my personal blog, glitchline. I’m done migrating from blogspot to wordpress but still fixing other 404 errors and widgets. After that, I’ll be changing my template here.

Anyway, why do we need more entrecard credits?

  • To buy more adverts. More adverts means more blog exposure.
  • To use as price on blog contests.
  • New entrecard users need more ec credits to buy adverts on popular blogs.

You could also buy credits directly from Entrecard. Cost: $9.50 = 1,000 ec credits, $47.50 = 5,000 ec credits and $95 for 10,000 ec credits.

Since I have a sum of EC credits, I decided to sell some of them for $3 only for every 2,000 ec credits. Please contact me first via entrecard for inquiries if I have enough credits to sell. (For newbies, click on the “E” on my entrecard widget) Payments can be done by clicking the Paypal button below.

Update: September is my anniversary month, so 50% off on regular sale. Available while supply lasts. I’m selling bulk EC credits, $15 for every 10,000 EC credits.

Update (9-30-08): Members are not allowed to sell credits: This goes for ebay sales, posts in the Marketing forum, and posts on other forums. If you have references on your site to the sale of credits, please remove them immediately, as it is now against our terms.
