There are many reasons why anybody would want to build a website, the common reason is selling their products or services online. And for beginners who want to venture on eCommerce but not knowledgeable about web design, a simple solution is to hire a web developer. Since its a new business, I don’t think its appropriate when its possible to create a website in no time.
There are various free web templates available but we are not sure if the templates are optimized for search engines. You might find a free website template suitable for your site but would you gamble your site and time for not having it optimized for search engines? Let me clear that SEO (search engine optimization) is a big factor on driving prospective customers on your site. No need to worry when we can find help on how to build a website.
We should also consider the professional layout suitable to our site contents. A prospective client will have an impression of a “fly by night” travel site if the site use a technology template, right? Also, an obvious mistake some site did was they did not consider their loading time. As a prospective client and reader myself, I instantly leave the site for its poor loading time. A website builder is the best solution not for new web entrepreneurs but to all site owners who have limited html knowledge.
If I wasn’t mistaken, it was two months ago when I setup my favicon at my personal blog, glitchline but I’m sure that I’ve also changed the favicon of this blog. Since it was summer and school vacation, I guess I forgot to correct the link to my php file of this blog. A comment noticed that I’m still using the “default” favicon and I’ve fix it now.
What is favicon anyway? Favicon (pronounced fav-eye-con) is short for “Favorites Icon”. It is a small image or icon before the URL at the address line just like the encirled favicons at the image shown below. Every opened tab also displayed a favicon before the link, same with the bookmark toolbar (using Mozilla Firefox).
Favicon is also visible to saved bookmarks as shown below. Most websites are using favicon. Sometimes, I don’t need to read the link from my bookmarks, the favicon help me recognize faster the link I was looking for.
Its not advisable to change favicon unless needed. Like logo, it is your trademark associated with your site and contents, decide first what favicon suited for your site. After choosing the image, use the favicon generator. Click the animate favicon and input text if you want. Download and save the file to your computer.
For WordPress:
Upload the favicon.ico file to your web host using FTP or your file manager. I’ve upload it to upload folder so that I will not lose the file just in case I want to change my template. You can also upload it to other file host, don’t forget to take note of the link.
Go to wordpress admin panel, theme editor and open header.php
Edit the file by adding this code: * Don’t forget to edit the favicon.ico link
Save header.php
Refresh the page to see the result.
For Blogspot:
Upload the favicon.ico file to any file host you want. I don’t suggest to upload it to blogger because there were times that some of my upload images are missing after some time. You can make an account at xthost (it is free). Upload the image there and take note of the link.
Go to Blogger dashboard – layout – edit HTML
At the top part of the html after [head], add this code: * Don’t forget to edit the favicon.ico link
Ok, I gave up. Since I cannot post mobile ebooks here for copyright reasons, I guess it won’t harm my blog if I post some of the websites I know for free ebook download. I’m also receiving some email inquiries about ebook links. If you intend to read the ebooks on mobile, don’t forget to browse the ebook conversion because most websites are using ebook format not intended for mobile and as well as the mobile application needed for your mobile ebook reading. Otherwise, just download the necessary ebook reader for your computer.
This post is regularly updated to add more ebook download links and removed dead links. Take note that I will not post direct links of certain ebooks. I’ve categorized the sites based on ebook format.
Finally, I have my UnionBank EON Visa activated and my Paypal account is verified already. Although, I’m hoping that I can use my own paypal to renew my host, I didn’t make it on time. Thanks to Marikenya for helping me on my host renewal using her Paypal.
The branch I choose near my place was not UnionBank anymore, it is IBank or International Bank, they’ve merged. The UnionBank site should informed us regarding that before hand so that we will not choose the branch or look for a bank which is not actually there. How about calling the Customer Service Hotline?
