Edit HTML Using System Explorer

This article is another way of editing html file using mobile phone, symbian60 to be exact. I prefer using System Explorer than my previous article, it’s easier and more convenient for me. System Explorer is also a third party file manager mobile application just like FExplorer. When it comes to html editing, I depend on System Explorer.

System Explorer screenshotHere it goes:

  1. Open System Explorer
  2. Goto the html file
  3. Click Option, Choose “Open with”
  4. Choose “Ansi editor”
  5. Make necessary html editing to html file
  6. Click Option, Choose “Save as”, Click OK
*You could also click back, then choose yes to save the file

Easy, isn’t it? My previous post is the basic way I used if I don’t have System Explorer installed. Now, you can edit html to customize Opera homepage or Raccoon mobsite. If you’re not sure with your codes, make a backup of the file. Again, this article is tried and tested on N6630.

Edit HTML Using Mobile Phone

This article is a follow up of basic information about raccoon and sort of a guide for html editing using mobile phone only. The generation we are now, there are also some people who doesn’t have access to computer or simply because they wish to do it on their phone for some reason. Recently, I am editing my Opera homepage again to update my links and layout. Editing the html on my phone made me see in an instant the actual output rather than editing it in a notepad on PC. There are computer software for this function but I am more comfortable using this method.

  1. On your symbian phone, using third party file manager fexplorer (any file manager will do but not the built-in file manager) rename file.html to file.html.txt – a trick to let the file manager recognize the file as txt file and not as an html file
  2. Make sure that the default application for txt file is “Notes” application. Here’s how to do it: Go to the txt file, click option, file, open with, file extension = TXT, Applications = Notes, then save.
  3. To test, click again the txt file, the file should open by Notes application. If its not, redo step 2.
  4. Go to Notes application, open your recently saved note, edit the file, send as MMS to any number then cancel
  5. Open fexplorer, click inbox, copy the file.txt and paste to other folder. Rename it to file.html

Note: You can see the out by assigning your third party browser such as Opera as the default application for html file. You can do it using step 2. Sometimes, it depends on 3rd party file manager you are using, to the step above, I suggest to use fexplorer. Tried and tested on N6630.

Why cancel the MMS? So the file will be save as txt file after editing and get the edited txt file from “inbox” of fexplorer.

Send Mobile eBooks Via MMS

Intrigue? You’ve read the title right, ebooktechie.com is the mobile ebook guide for the new generation of bookworms and don’t want to mislead readers for the sake of SEO (search engine optimization).

MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is the evolution of Short Message Service (SMS, which is a text-only messaging technology for mobile networks). It allows the sending and receiving of multimedia messages such as graphics, video and audio clips. It has been designed to work with mobile packet data services such as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service).

File size – MMS has file size limitation of 100kb for older GPRS capable models and 300kb for S60 current models. We should know the recipient’s phone capability in able to send files via MMS otherwise he will just receive a blank MMS

File – MMS allows sending and receiving graphics, video and audio clips. How about other files such as games, application, themes, ebooks etc? It is possible with a simple trick.

In able to send mobile ebooks via MMS is by renaming the file type by using third party file manager like FExplorer. To avoid recipient’s confusion and to send other files other than graphics, video and audio, the best way is to have the file compressed to zip or rar, just make sure the recipient has compression tool like winrar or any file compression tool installed on his phone to open the file. It is really possible to send eBook via MMS.

Another way is by sending it using mmsIt mobile application which I will be discussing soon.

What Category Does Mobile eBook Belong?

I remembered the time when I started blogging at wordpress.com. I have so many things to learn that time, I’ve read a lot of sites regarding blogging such as how to drive traffic, search engine optimization, blog submission to name a few. I admit, I had several mistakes in the past and still have many things to learn.

I’m not a guru in internet marketing but the easiest and convenient way for me when I was a newbie was to submit my blog to every free directory I came across with. Although most of the blog submission site doesn’t follow, blog exposure does matter. The mistake I made before was to submit my wordpress.com blog, even if I had plan of moving to my own domain. So, when I moved to my domain, I have to resubmit again my new link.

A piece of advice on blog submission is to find the best category that matches your blog. hmmn… this is always been my problem until now, the technology category is a general category and most of the directory I know doesn’t have mobile or other related subcategory.

Ways To Transfer eBook To Mobile

When I started on mobile ebook reading, aside from where to get the ebook files, the transfering of ebook files to mobile is another problem. Of course, these days there are numerous solution especially if you have access to computer. Let me share the things I did before (no PC access) and the present solution to this problem. Again, I’m concentrated on symbian 60 phone mobile ebooks.

Here they are:

  • OTA (Over The Air) Direct download using built in browser and other third party browser (Opera and the like) – the common way to download files provided that you have a working gprs and/or internet settings connections. This way, it doesn’t matter whether you have the direct link or simply search for the files.
  • Download using fget – fget is a mobile application wherein the only purpose is to download files such as ebooks and other files. Click here for more details.
  • Get it using comobi – a mobile application installed on your phone and a friend who will give you the files.
  • Download using raccoon – a mobile application of a friend or colleague, setup a mobsite on his phone and share the files by giving you the link.
  • Email attachment – have the ebook file send to your email as email attachment. Download the attachments through your email account. Just make sure that you have WINRAR or other compression mobile application just in case you need to uncompress it.
  • Via MMS – (added May 11) With a few tricks, its now possible to send ebooks via MMS.
  • Bluetooth – the easiest and free download from a friend. Don’t forget to turned off the bluetooth after file transfer.
  • Card Reader – use card reader on transferring mobile ebooks you download using computer to your mobile.
  • PC Suite – I haven’t tried this yet. I will reinstall PC Suite again and make a separate article for this.
