Mobile eBook… PageRank… Copybloggers

I haven’t seen my blog status in #1 rank since I lost my PageRank. I’m always on #3, sometimes on #2. I got excited last night for this progress, I hope I’m on the right path already. In one way or another, I felt the decreased visitors since I received my first PR update for 2009. I’m not ready that time since I have technical issues with my computer for a month and haven’t concentrated updating my blog. I learned my lessons and hoping to regain my PR. I’m still working on it and trying to maintain what I did in the past plus a little experiment.
googlesearch
Some hotshot bloggers might considered my site as a niche blog, I consider this blog as my baby. My first real blog after years of moblogging (mobile blogging)… I personally write, research, tested softwares and application for handling mobile ebooks to have an update for this blog. On the other hand, I’m sad that there are “auto content” blogs that have some of my contents. Yes, they link back (nofollow), my concern is it might prolong my waiting for PR for my contents being copied. And they have PageRank… is that fair?

BTW, my blog is also welcome for test units/review units of handheld devices and ebook reader devices. Please contact me and send me the details.

Read CBR CBZ Files On Mobile

batman_hushIf your symbian phone doesn’t have any compatible Comic Book Reader application and you’re eager to read the latest Comic Book you’ve downloaded, what will you do? Will you give up? Give up your cellphone?

Its been a week, until now, I cannot find any CBR CBZ reader for Symbian 60 2nd Edition. I found one for S60 3rd edition and not compatible to my mobile phone. I still didn’t give up and find another way to read (or view) the comic book on my mobile. A page from the comic Batman Hush on the left was resized to fit on this post, original size was 1280 x 2002 (1.1 MB).

I mentioned before to post CBR CBZ For Comic Book that a cheat to view CBR and CBZ files is to rename them as RAR or ZIP (compressed files). Make sure that you have any software like Winzip, WinRAR or any other file compression software installed on your PC. I’m using WINRAR even on my mobile. After renaming a file to RAR or ZIP, its icon will be changed to decompression icon.

You could click the file to view its contents. In my case, I extracted all the files and resized the images to smaller size. Then I transferred the files to memory card of my phone. View the files as regular images on your phone.

Actually, I was thinking of converting the images to java photo eBook but I think its impossible to view the text on each page image. One thing I don’t like is navigating the cursor around again just like reading a PDF on mobile. I still enjoy reading the real comics, Comic books on PC is better than reading it on mobile.

eBook Source File?!

Others call them as input files. The file that you have that you need to be converted into another ebook format. Please take note that I’m referring to ebooks for mobile as the output files or converted files in this topic.

When it comes to ebook conversion for handheld device just the same also needs attention on ebook preparation of source file before conversion. I don’t want to sound complicated but remember that we are reading our ebooks in small LCD screen, they should be optimized as such. That also depends on what ebook format we want it to be converted.

Going back to source file, in what format are the best source files? PDF? MS Word DOC? TXT?

PDF – I have to admit that this is the best ebook source file for most converted file for its perfection. Although there are available PDF reader for handheld devices and some read them directly on their device, I’m not comfortable navigating around my cursor to view the entire page. With PDF’s perfection, there are some limitations for mobile ebooks… there are PDFs that cannot be converted. A perfect example is Bob Ong eBooks. I also encountered a poorly converted PDF file that however I tweak the file, remains useless. hmmn… I should make a post about that. I still prefer PDF as source file for my favorite repligo reader, the output is the same as PDF on PC but optimized for small screens of handheld devices. No more editing, just click, click and click, you have your perfect RGO ebook.

DOC – This is the best source file if your ebook comes from other formats (or it could be from a “chain of conversion“). When it is originally in other format, its impossible that you don’t need to edit the file. Still if its DOC file, you could modify the file, remove some unnecessary lines, pages, line breaks, page breaks, etc.. You could edit DOC file depends on the output format you want to convert it. This is the best source format for Mobipocket PRC creation especially if it has TOC (Table of Contents).

TXT – I’m fond of using this as my source file for Aportis PRC ebook. I’m proud to say that its the most convenient way of converting my txt files to PRC (Aportis, not Mobipocket) during my first year of mobile ebook reading. I need the computer primarily for editing the txt file only, ebook conversion tool was installed on my phone as well as the reader. You can even convert your SMS to eBook directly on your mobile.

Kindle eBook Conversion… Kindle Free eBooks

Amazon Kindle is an electronic paper display ebook reader device. Amazon said that even the best reading device would be useless without a massive selection of books thats’s why they have 270,000 ebooks plus top newspapers, magazines, and blogs available in the Kindle Store as of this writing.

Kindle does not require a data plan subscription, but users will have to open up their wallets to purchase books or access available newspaper, magazine or blog content.
New York Times bestsellers and new releases will generally cost $9.99 per book, according to Amazon. Subscriptions to newspapers like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post, as well as several international selections, will cost between $5.99 and $14.99 per month. Magazines like the Atlantic Monthly, Time and Fortune will cost between $1.25 and $3.49 per month. Connecting to content from over 300 blog selections, meanwhile, will cost about 99 cents per blog.
– source PC Mag

I don’t like the idea of purchasing ebooks since I already have my own eLibrary (ebook collection) and ebook resources. My concern is how to convert my eLibrary to Kindle ebook format at NO cost. I’m sure most of the Kindle users are also thinking of this idea.

Kindle eBook Formats:
Kindle – AZW (native version, kindle version of .mobi), Mobipocket MOBI and PRC (without DRM) and TXT
Kindle 2 – AZW, TXT, AA & AAX (audible.com audiobooks), MP3, Mobipocket MOBI and PRC

PDF, HTML, DOC, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP needs conversion. Amazon claims that not all PDF’s may format correctly.

Kindle eBook Conversion:
Listed above are the compatible ebook formats for Kindle. I prefer to use Mobipocket eBook Conversion using the Mobipocket Creator Publisher Edition. PDF, DOC and HTML can also be converted to Mobipocket ebook format. But of course, converting any documents into TXT format is easier. Or you could search for Kindle eBook Converter softwares online depends on your ebooks sources. If you don’t want any hassle, you could also avail of free ebook conversion from Amazon, email your PDF, HTML and DOC to YourKindleName@free.kindle.com

TIP:
Kindle 2 had received criticism about lighter text that caused eye strain or mild headaches after reading for long periods of time. Some disgruntled Kindle 2 users have “downgraded” to Kindle. The solution is to edit the “source file” and make all the fonts as bolder text before Kindle ebook conversion.

Kindle Free eBooks:
ESSPC PRC
FeedBooks – MOBI
GirleBooks PRC
ManyBooks AZW, PRC, MOBI
MnyBks PRC
Mobipocket PRC
MobileRead PRC
Munseys PRC
Poetry In Translation MOBI
WebScription PRC

**Other eBook formats resources like PDF and HTML can be seen at Free eBook Download, you could convert the download file to Kindle eBook.

Convert RGO To PDF

This is just one of the several cases that the person involved need to convert repligo files to PDF. In this case, it is clear that Repligo Windows (repligo reader for PC) was already installed to PC. The problem is how to convert RGO to PDF.

I downloaded some ebooks and some of them are in .rgo format. I have downloaded the repligo viewer software already but that only lets me view the file i want to be able to convert these .rgo files to pdf. How do I do that? Is there any software out there that I can use to do it?

Let me mention that there are many repligo fanatics out there that had made their ebooks converted into repligo and shared them to other eBookworms, some have shared them to forums, blogs, websites and other resources. But its also a fact that the developer also stop releasing updated versions since 2004. I’m talking about Repligo for Symbian 60 and they didn’t release versions for latest Nokia mobile phones.

Why converting it to PDF? You could read Why PDF is the commonly asked ebook format, an old post but worthy on this topic. I just want to add that most ebook conversion softwares accepts PDF as source file.

Going back, do you know that the easiest repligo conversion is making it PDF? Its a “one step conversion” process, no editing involved otherwise you want to edit the repligo file before converting it PDF. You could use any PDF maker that serves as add-in to your Microsoft Office such as doPDF, CutePDF, TinyPDF to name a few. Don’t worry, they are freewares and safe. If you already installed Repligo Windows, just click “File”, “Print” the choose your desired PDF Maker or add-in.

Don’t forget to compare the repligo source file and the PDF output file because this procedure is not 100% perfect. I’ve tried converting some of my RGO file to PDF, one failed to be converted fully because of big file size, repligo file is 184 pages and converted PDF is only 84 pages. Another RGO file with 79 pages was converted successfully.

I guess its better to purchase a PDF maker software than using freewares, there no guarantee though because I haven’t tried on this case. However, for smaller RGO files, they were successfully converted. Its worth a try, its easy.

For unsuccessful conversion, you can use again your freeware PDF maker “add-in” software. But we have to add few steps. Open your repligo file on repligo viewer, edit, select all and paste it to MS Word blank document. You will be needing a lot of patience on editing the new DOC file, you have to omit all the unnecessary line breaks and will consume you time. Again, patience. Then print it as PDF.
