Wattpad For iPhone and iPod Touch

Wattpad On IpodGood news! Wattpad is already available for iPhone and iPod Touch.

To those who didn’t know, Wattpad is a mobile application for online mobile ebook reading. “Online” means you have to use an internet connection. The best part is… with iPhone and iPod Touch, there would be no connection fee compared to other phones because they are wifi capable.

This may be the best device for Wattpad or the other way around for online mobile eBook reading. It is already available for download from App Store for free.

They are currently running a contest, they’re giving away an iPod Touch to a lucky Wattpad fan. Not bad but I’m hoping that I will win so I can test and read more eBooks and experience wattpad on iPod.

The winner will be selected randomly on June 30, 2009 at 11:59pm and will be contacted shortly afterwards. Marked my calendar!

I wonder if I could also download ebooks and read it offline just like what I did on my N6630.  The only way toknow is to  own (or win) an iPod Touch. (my fingers are crossed… LOL)

Convert PDF To LIT

I received an email few days ago about converting PDF to LIT format using the contact form on this site. I have some issues with the past contact form plugin after plugin upgrade, the sender’s name and email address were not shown because of the plugin bug. The email goes like this:

I’m curious if you know of a program that can convert .pdf files into .lit files. I HATE reading pdf ebooks, because I cannot save my place in them, whereas the .lit version saves your place in multiple books. I read the books on my laptop…

I agree that when it comes to eBooks, we cannot have bookmarks in pdf unless we take note of it. The easiest way will be purchasing a file converter specially for that function, pdf to lit. There are trial versions but they offer it for limited page conversion, 5-10 pages only just enough to try and test the product.

The “FREE” conversion:

  1. Convert the pdf files to .TXT format or Word .DOC file. There are two ways:
    • Open the PDF file, edit, select all, copy and paste it to notepad or MS Word.
    • Use free PDF to TXT converter software. You could also try free PDF to DOC software.
  2. Images will not be copied (TXT), save the image separately as an image file (optional)
  3. Edit the copied file for line breaks and spaces.
  4. Download and install free ReaderWorks.
  5. Make necessary adjustments to settings before conversion.

Instructions and informations to use these products will be posted soon.  My apologies to email sender, you can contact me again (contact page already working), comment here or subscribe to my feeds to have immediate answer to your concern.

Why Do We Need Mobipocket Categories?

When it comes to ebook conversion of mobipocket, do we really need to encode the book category or genre? Mobipocket as one of the leading ebook provider, the powerful Mobipocket reader have feature to filter files… to filter them according to publisher, genre and author.

Let’s look at the ebook reader’s (person) point of view. Let’s assume that a bookworm has lots of ebook collection on his Mobipocket Reader or eLibrary. It will be easy to find ebooks by a certain author, publisher or genre by clicking the filter feature.

Mobipocket eBook Reader-filter feature

For the record, here’s the list of mobipocket categories.

Action & Adventure, Architecture & Design, Art, Asian Interest, Biographies, Bioscience & Clinical Medicine, Personal Finance, Business & Finance, Calculators, Cartoons, Classics, Computing & Internet, Cooking, Current Events, Dictionaries, Economics, Education, Entertainment, Erotica, Encyclopedias, Family, Fantasy, Gay & Lesbian, Gender Studies, General Fiction, Geography, Health, Historical Fiction, History, Horror, House & Home, Humor, Humor Political, Juvenile Fiction, Language & Linguistics, Law, Literary Criticism & Collections, Mathematics, Media & Communication, Medical, Movies & TV Series, Music & Songs, Mystery & Crime, Nature, Novels, Performing Arts, Pets, Philosophy, Poetry, Politics, Psychology, Quizzes, Reference, Religious Fiction, Restaurant Guides, Romance, Science Fiction, Science & Technical, Self-Improvement, Short Stories, Sociology, Spiritual & Religion, Sports & Outdoors, Study Aids, Suspense & Thrillers, Tales & Fables, Technological Fiction, Technology, Theatre, Travel, True Crime, Undefined

What if your category is not included in the list? We could leave blank the main subject or choose “undefined” during conversion. This is okay IF the ebookworm has few ebook collection. Take note that ebook files in eLibrary will eventually grow in the long run. I’m sure Mobipocket and MobiReader fanatics understand what I mean.

PixLink Registration

PixLink_mainThe service was launched in Thursday, February 26, the idea of uploading the images and videos stored in our mobile to Facebook, Youtube, Flickr, Blogger, Picasa and G-Blogs using our mobile phone via wap is very irresistible. Since it was recently launched, I register via SMS, I failed. I went to Globe PixLink website and I received an email confirmation. After that, I haven’t received any email or SMS from PixLink.

This morning, I sent the word PIXLINK to 2988 and received a link for registration. The SMS is this:
Welcome to PixLink. Now you can upload and share your photos and videos. Register by clicking on the link below for FREE. Use myGlobe Connect as GPRS access point when connecting. This service is free for use until March 5, 2009. http://www.pixlink.com.ph/wap/registration.wap

Click the link and complete the registration. You will received another SMS with the PixLink application link, download and install the file. When you open the application, you will see the screenshot above then you have to type in your username and password. Screenshot below will follow.

PixLink_subscribe
Subscription options are Php 30/day, Php 60/2days and Php 120/5days. I thought PixLink is free until March 5. Take note that the application is still in beta version. In fact, I experienced a glitch during registration.

Also, see the text below the options, it says, “Your media will be retained for 45 days from the day of the subscription expiry“. I didn’t expected this but to those who are availing of the service take note of the 45 days.

UPDATE (March 4, 2009): I guess, there was a glitch when I registered to PixLink that’s why I was asked for subscription options, please see image above. I tried it again yesterday and I didn’t get the same page. I uninstalled Globe PixLink last night because even if the application is closed it was connecting to GPRS. Some kinda weird that my mobile turned off. When I opened it again, it shut down again. The culprit: low memory. I have available 4MB+ before I try PixLink already installed. When I checked on FExplorer, available memory was 64KB! Be careful if you are using old mobile phones. I won’t give up my mobile because of its flexibility on mobile eBooks.

To Globe PixLink, please test the application using older models. I’m sure latest mobile phones with larger internal memoy can handle PixLink application. I only have Kaspersky antivirus, Fexplorer and PixLink installed in phone memory.
