Entrecard Economy… Economics? Getting Better?

I was about to logout last night when I received the email from Entrecard regarding the many significant changes in entrecard. Actually, I was one who commented early. (comment #26, duh…)

At first glance, it saddened me… no more selling of my extra EC credits since it was included in the TOS now:

Members are not allowed to sell credits: This goes for ebay sales, posts in the Marketing forum, and posts on other forums. If you have references on your site to the sale of credits, please remove them immediately, as it is now against our terms.

I removed my paypal donate button on Entrecard Credits For Sale post and removed the link of that post below my EC widget. I love EC and don’t want to be banned. The good old trading days is over but looking forward to the new advertising price. It is a known fact that placing an advert to highest “price in credits” blog doesn’t mean that its worth it or will give you tremendous traffic. I doubt if the law of supply and demand applies to old advertising price.

AdMob’s latest mobile metric report for the month of August revealed the following:

  • Nokia had 62.4 percent of worldwide smartphone traffic in August, with more than 50 percent in every region except North America. In the US, Nokia does not have a top 20 ranked smartphone.
  • RIM is in second place worldwide with 10.8 percent of smartphone traffic with the large majority of that coming from North America. RIM leads in the US with 31.2 percent of smartphone traffic and manufactures three of the top 10 devices.
  • The top five smartphones in the US – the BlackBerry Pearl, Palm Centro, BlackBerry Curve, Apple iPhone, and Samsung Instinct – generated 12.9 percent of all US traffic in August, a 2.4 percent increase over July.

I checked on the August AdMob Mobile Metric report, I’m interested on the top mobile brand and model worldwide.

Monetize Mobile Ready WordPress Blog Using AdMob

Since this blog is already mobile ready, how about generating income? In the Philippines, adSense for mobile content is currently not available. We still see google ads on handheld devices, I guess the publisher is not in the Philippines.

So, if google for mobile content publisher is impossible in the Philippines, a better alternative is using AdMob. With the fast rising growth of 3G and WiFi users in the Philippines, its impossible not to earn on our mobile traffic.

Why use AdMob? AdMob offers more standard ad formats such as Brand Ads and Performance Ads, as well as new and innovative options for monetization such as Facebook Mobile ads and AdMob for Search. A great way to monetize our mobile traffic.

What’s more is they also have AdMob Mobile Metrics (also known as AdMob Mobile Analytics) which they added to Philippines publishers recently, is the “alter ego” of Google Analytics.

Automatic (SQL) Database Backup

Blogging is not simple especially if you self hosted your blog. The common mistake is not backing up database or SQL files regularly. What if your blog suddenly disappear? Bad things happen but we should never neglect our obligation to our blog among other things. But backing up database is also time consuming when you have many tasks to do. I only have 4 hours a day on my PC, 2 hours spent on entrecard dropping for my 2 blogs and 2 hours for blogging. There’s no more time for me logging in to my database to back it up.

Actually, I found a simple solution. I used a plugin few months back. I didn’t post it here because I’m still testing it. Now, I recommend it to all bloggers I know and decided to make a post about it to spread the word. It is called WP-DBmanager and you can download it here.

Its compatible with wordpress version 2.5 and above. I’m using wordpress 2.6.1 and it still works. Actually, I lost my site, it is currently hosted at bluehost. With reliable support of bluehost and with SQL backup made by this plugin, I guess, my site will be gone forever. Actually, it doesn’t matter what host account you have as long you always backup your database. I highly recommend to use the plugin, it supports manual backup, automatic backup (input the right settings in DB Options on your wp admin panel, I set it up every 3 days), restore backup, email database, download database, repair database (haven’t tried yet) and many more.

If you need more quality time on blogging without disregarding your database backup, using this plugin is another option.

How To Motivate Droppers To Reciprocate

Isn’t that impressive? I made it possible by simply reciprocating. Regular visits do happen if you really reciprocate to their drops, no need to be listed on any entrecard list.
