Photo eBook by mjBook
mjBook is a freeware software intended for java eBook conversion, another feature of this software is the digital photo eBook java conversion which I’ve tried now. The output digital album is also in jar or java format just like the ebook converted by mjBook. Again, java files are standalone files, meaning that you don’t need extra application to view it on your mobile device. Just transfer the file to your mobile phone and install it.
- Open mjBook software, click “Photo Book Gallery”
- Input your book name, the phone screen resolution ( I use 176*208 for my Nokia 6630)
- Add images, change the photo sequence by clicking up or down
- Add the png format image for your splash screen and icon (optional)
- Click start
So far, the problem I’ve encountered is the preview for phone screen resolution. The added image doesn’t show there. Also, I don’t think that a background color option is important because it doesn’t show on the converted file.
I’ve used different image resolution on my first try, I don’t like the result. Small resolution images resulted to white background color, that’s why I’ve mentioned above that the background color setting is not important. Different resolution images on your photo book will make other images too small or too big for your screen. Lets consider also the file size of the output photo album, it will end up too large.
Here’s the two-in-one solution for image resolution and large file size. I’ve used Alon Screencapture application to have the screenshots of the images on full screen. You can also use FExplorer or any mobile application that serves the same purpose. Screenshots will give you the exact resolution of your phone with a smaller file size. It is recommended especially if you want to add many images on your Photo eBook. After gathering the screenshots, transfer the files to your computer and you’re ready to convert your Photo eBook.
How to exit Photo eBook on 6630? Press 1 or 3 0r 7 or 9 — click option then exit.
Repligo Conversion, Anyone?
No doubt that Repligo is my favorite eBook format. Repligo allows you to have virtually any document from your PC right on your mobile device without compromising the original document’s appearance, formatting, fonts, graphics and integrity.
Conversion:
- I’m using Repligo PDF Mobilizer software for converting unlimited amounts of PDF files for PDA or Smartphones.
- I’m using Repligo for Nokia Series 60 2.0 software for converting other formats such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet Explorer. After installation, you’ll notice that the repligo icon is included in your toolbox of word, excel, powerpoint. If you want to convert the current page… just click this icon.

The Repligo conversion softwares are not free. The Repligo for Series 60 convertion software comes with Repligo Desktop, your guide for conversion. Repligo Windows and Repligo for Symbian 60 readers are absolutely FREEwares. By this time, if you check on their site, some are getting confused on which is to be download that’s why I’ve put download links here. Make sure that you have downloaded the correct application for your device.
The conversion softwares are intend to convert files to repligo format. If you have download such repligo files and want to convert it to another format, here’s how to do it:
- Install Repligo Windows viewer on your PC
- Open the file in it
- Do select all, then copy (as long as your eBook is text)
- Paste it to notepad

- Then you can convert it afterwards or read it on your mobile using txt eBook mobile application
JAVA eBook Conversion, Anyone?
The complete documentation of java eBook conversion using mjBook can be view here, you can find the complete list of java enabled phones here. Aside from eBook, mjBook is also capable of converting your pictures into a digital photo album… hmmn, I can’t wait to try that too. Yeah, I admit I did have a great time using this software.

The first important thing to do is prepare your text format file. View it on your notepad, edit if necessary. If you want to have tags on your java book for easy page searching… this is the process you should do. Add <p1> for introduction, <p2> for chapter and <p3> for section before the word. (example: <p2>Chapter 1) Do this to all chapters and parts you want to tag. This is just an option, if you didn’t do the process, you still have the first page, last page, % position and the bookmarks on the navigation option of finished java eBook. I prefer to do it anyway. You have to set tag <img picture_file_name> to have a picture on your ebook like book cover. (example: <img d:\books\pictures\bookcover.png>) Make sure that you use png format.
- Open the mjBook software (see screenshot), at the upper right portion, choose your phone screen resolution. I choosed 176*208 for my 6630.
- Input other details such as eBook name, Author and other information. Select the prepared txt file on “source text file”. Checked the tags analysis if you put the <p>‘s in your text file.
- The “max size of text path” default is 90,000 bytes or 90kb. Text file size bigger than 90kb will split your file into many java eBooks. I did convert a 799kb text file, just imagine how many java Ebook it made. To mobile phones with lower or limited memory, this is the solution to read the eBook partially. I’ve set it to 1000000 bytes or 1mb just to make sure it would not split my eBook.
- Fonts! Choose “MS Windows and phone fonts” for a variety of fonts available, then choose your font, font style, font size, font and background color. Click wordwrap. Choose your desired layout, portrait or landscape.
- Images. The flash screen image will be shown only on start up of the java eBook. The 2nd one is for the icon, it can be seen on java eBook menu (upper part) and at the phone’s menu.
Recheck your settings then start converting.

This mobile ebook article is primarily for the new generation of bookworms who doesn’t have computer or just want to have their txt file converted wherever, whenever they want even if they’re a hundred miles away from they’re desktop. I’m a big fan of this eBook Maker application, can’t even decide on what mobile phone should I buy next because it might not be compatible. I hope the developers could make a higher version that would work on other latest symbian phones nowadays. And since there are none, I’m still having a second thought on what latest phone should I buy or find another mobile application that works the same function.
eBook Maker is a free application for symbian phones. Special messages such as quotes or other important messages can be converted into an eBook. I frequently do this to back up important messages. There are other computer software available online but I’m concentrating more on mobile application as much as it can be.
There are ways to do this.
*Here’s the first option, a comprehensive step by step how to convert your messages into an eBook on your phone.
- On your mobile, open the message you want to convert, click option then choose forward
- Highlight the message then copy. Use the pen key and cursor to highlight the text, option > copy the message.
- Go to main menu and click notes. Open a new note then paste the message. Copy other messages if you want and make necessary editing.
- Send the note via Multimedia message, click close and choose “Saved to Draft”.
- Open FExplorer 1.17, go to the main directory and click inbox folder. Lower version of FExplorer doesn’t have inbox folder so make sure that you have the latest version.
- Locate the .txt file, copy the file and paste it to another folder. option > edit > copy > and paste ito to other folder. Close all unnecessary application especially if you have lower symbian phone model.
- Open eBook Maker application > option > make book > locate the folder where you’ve pasted it, then click
- It will ask you now where do you want the converted eBook to be saved, choose Library.
- After conversion, eBook Maker will ask “Delete source file?”… choose yes or no. Even if you choose yes, you still have a copy at your notes, thats if you have plans of future editing.
Open eBook, the file should be in the Library. From the FExplorer or any third party file manager, the exact location of your eBook is E:\System\Apps\SW_Book\Library. Converted eBook filename can be change using FExplorer or any third party file manager.
**If you have other ebook file in txt format and want it converted to Aportis (prc), skip steps 1 to 6.
***The easiest way is to use Message Storer v1.02 application. Converting SMS/MMS file to txt format is as easy as ABC with this mobile application. Supported devices are Nokia 3230, Nokia 3650, Nokia 3660, Nokia 6260, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620, Nokia 6630, Nokia 6670, Nokia 6680, Nokia 7610, Nokia 7650, Nokia N70, Nokia N90, Nokia N-Gage, Panasonic X700, Panasonic X800, Samsung SGH-D730, Sendo X, Siemens SX1.
Look Ma, I have eBook on my phone!
eBook 1.03 is the first mobile ebooks application I’ve tried and tested. It is first supported by symbianware. It comes with a free eBook maker application. eBook allows reading books in eBook Aportis (.prc) or Palm Database (.pdb) format. You can change the font, font size, font color, background color, etc. You can also change the view layout. Compatible devices: Nokia 7650, 3650/3600, N-Gage/N-Gage QD, 6600, 3660/3620, 7610, 6620, 6670, 6260, 6630, 3230, 6680/6681, Panasonic x700/x701, Samsung SGH-D730, Siemens SX1, Sendo X.
Let’s get started…
- I assumed that this application is compatible with your phone model, install the eBook 1.03 application to the phone’s memory card.
- Use third party file manager application. In my case, I use FExplorer 1.17, my favorite freeware and the updated version. This application is necessity to manipulate your ebooks on your phone. Other versions: German French Italian Dutch Spanish Swedish Finnish Portuguese
- If this is the first time you installed the eBook application, open FExplorer, go to E:\System\Apps\SW_Book and create a folder “Library”. This is the location you should store all your prc and pdb eBoook files.
- From the mobile phone’s main menu, open eBook 1.03. If you’ve already saved an ebook, you should see the file there.
Why do I like eBook 1.03?
I’ve mentioned earlier that eBook 1.03 reads PRC and PDB files, these files are smaller compared to other eBook formats. It is important if you have limited memory on your mmc. Eye strain? I usually spent 2-4 hours reading ebook on my phone. The first time I’ve used this application, I haven’t adjusted the application settings. The adjustments consists of font size and color, background color… this ebook application is “eye friendly”. It also has page scrolling feature for easy reading, no more clicking. Just make sure you haven’t fall asleep. hehehe.. You can also change the screen layout, the default is portrait or change it to landscape. How about the bookmark? If you exit the application, when opening it again… the eBook and the last page you previously close will be there. For additonal bookmark, you could also bookmark the page or if you remember the percent (%) or page you want, just simply navigate it.
