Phishing eMail?
I’ve received a reply from Paypal after I’ve reported a phishing email I’ve received this morning. The reply is as follows:
Thanks for taking an active role by reporting suspicious-looking emails. The email you forwarded to us is a phishing email, and our security team is working to disable it.
What is a phishing email? Phishing emails attempt to steal your identity and will often ask you to reveal your password or other personal or financial information. PayPal will never ask for your password over the phone or in an email and will always address you by your first and last name.
I’ve tried the phishing challenge below, try to answer (true or false) and see if you can spot pishing.
- Phishing is a form of fraud designed specifically to steal your identity.
- You can be sure that an email is valid based on the sender’s email address.
- We may occasionally ask you for your full name and password in a PayPal email.
- A PayPal email will never contain attachments or software.
- Clicking on a link in an email is the most reliable way to get to your PayPal account.
Actually, I’ve almost believe that email except for the email add. Beware: PayPal.com Customer Service” service@##.##.##.###. If you received a possible phishing email, forward the entire email to spoof@paypal.com.
