Speed Up WordPress 2.6
As I saw my dashboard this morning, WordPress 2.6 is officially released July 15 to US but July 16 to my location, a month earlier to expected August 2008 release. I instantly decided to update my wordpress 2.5.1 without knowing the added features. I admit, I don’t want to be left behind and updating wordpress version is kinda addicting. LOL. I didn’t even made a back-up.
You can read the WordPress 2.6 features to this link. After uploading the files and database upgrade, of course I looked for changes on my dashboard. Haven’t found any yet but noticed the “turbo” link at the upper right corner of admin panel.
Here’s what I saw after clicking the turbo link:

Wordpress now has support for Gears which adds new features to web browser. hmnn… sounds a major change so I installed and enabled Gears. Then I clicked it once again to see what will happen next.
I had an error, it says:
“Local Storage Status: Error: Download of ‘http://www.ebooktechie.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins/default/img/menu-arrow.gif returned response code 404“.
I checked on my web host and saw that I haven’t upload such folder. So I upload it and reclick “turbo”. Now it says:
“Local storage status: Updated completed.”
So, I guess, there are no more problems. I’m impressed. Looking forward for future wordpress upgrades, I told you, this is addicting. LOL

PR4 For Mobile eBook Etc
September 12 last year, I started blogging at wordpress.com and got a PR5. As I continuously updating my blog, I eventually realized that I have to moved my blog to my own domain, ebooktechie.com last January 8 this year. Actually, I did had a second thought on having my own domain that time, its hard to start again from scratch,to a PR0. I have to take the risk, move now (that time) than be sorry in the future. From January to present, I was waiting for google pagerank update.
Anyway, a friend congratulate me this morning. He informed me that my blog shows a PR4 on his google toolbar but its impossible for me to check it on my computer until tonight when we got home after watching the movie “Iron Man”. It didn’t showed on my IE google toolbar so I made a little googling for PageRank update. Court answers his comments as fast as he could, he informed me that my blog shows a PR4 and the sandbox doesn’t affect visible PR – it affects rankings only.
Sandbox still confuses me, I have to find a working PR checker button for now.
Visual Editor Do Works After Upgrade To WordPress 2.5.1
Its been almost a month when WordPress 2.5 was released, WordPress 2.5.1 is now available to fix annoying bugs and security. Who doesn’t want to secure our blog? We always heard news and even saw some of our favorite blogs got hacked and the recent blog that saddens me was co-reciprodropper Arnold of Chalk Is Cheap. I don’t know if its the version he was using or what but the bottom line here is security.
Other than security protection, the problem I’ve encountered since I’ve upgraded ebooktechie.com to wordpress 2.5 was the visual editor which I forgot to mention to my post, WordPress 2.5 Errors was my visual editor of my write post. Its only now that I saw that I forgot to upload some files for that. Imagine from the time being, I’ve been using html editor and just use the “preview this post” new feature of wordpress 2.5. Well. lessons learned already.
WordPress always surprises me, I’ve blog last month the fresh color scheme of the admin panel that was hard on my eyes. Now, I really love using the fresh color scheme at my admin panel. I hope, wordpress would come up with another sets of color schemes on their next upgrade.
Everytime I had to update my wordpress, I always had butterflies on my tummy, always in doubt that I might miss something, somewhere and get errors or loose my files which actually happened on my visual editor. Its a rule of thumb to backup database before upgrade which I always did. Anyway, better upgrade than sorry to get rid of the over 70 errors of wordpress 2.5.

WordPress 2.5 Errors?
I guess, everybody’s busy updating their wordpress version. The version that took six months to develop, its worth it. It is highly recommended for security reasons and the added features. Here’s the observations I like at the moment.
Administration panel – I’ve mentioned from my previous post that I don’t like the admin color scheme, its the “fresh” color scheme which is the default after the upgrade. I’ve changed it to classic to make it easier on my eyes. You can change it on your profile. The admin panel is totally different from the previous versions as well as the wordpress.com blog. It will take a while before we can get used to the new dashboard. Go ahead, explore them.
Security – An added feature for changing of password. Many bloggers have different choices on password, a meter that indicates the strength of our chosen password. Its shows if our password is too short, bad, good and strong. A strong password is a combination of small and capital letters, numbers and special characters like !”?$%^&.
Plugin – plugin update is just a click away. No more login to your webhost and upload the necessary files. I’ve updated my All-In-One SEO Pack in an instant. Its a big relief for me as well with the other new bloggers.
Permalink – Permalink can be edited at your write post page, below the post title. Deimos informed me that its possible from the previous wordpress versions but I haven’t noticed it since I don’t used number post on permalink. My basic understanding of seo, permalink does matter.
WordPress error… Login error… Upload error… plugin doesn’t work… its frequent from the wordpress community now, some are looking for answers on their error problem. The best thing to do is to check if you followed the instruction right and seek help at the wordpress forum. I still saw some error report on my blog like my login-in page looks strange, the upload media displayed errors. I have to look closely to my uploaded files, I might bypassed some files. After I found the reason behind these errors, I’m sure, blogging gets better.
Blogging Gets Better With WordPress 2.5
This is my first post after I’ve upgraded this blog to WordPress version 2.5. Whew! Its not that easy compared to the last time I’ve update this blog. From version 2.2 to 2.3, its a minor update only. This time, I have to back up database, I even made back-up for my template since I recently have some modifications I don’t want to ruin. At first, I’m hesitant to upgrade my version. I neither have experience, but I did it without asking for any help from anybody. I’m afraid to commit mistakes, I might delete important files or worst than that.
I did it somehow, but I still saw some errors from my admin dashboard. As of the moment, the only thing I don’t like is the color of the admin panel. I’ve noticed also that we can edit the link before posting it. That’s cool! You can have a different title with a different link.
I’ll explore the new features of the new version first thing in the morning when I wake up. And share everything I learned from this experience. For now, my body and mind is telling me to sleep.
